Pray for Good "Spirit Day" Weather... St. Anne's Spirit Day Committee and the rest of the parish -- with umbrellas at the ready-- are currently in "prayer mode" hoping and praying for good weather from 1 to 10 P.M. on tomorrow September 15. But, as advertised, the event is on "rain or shine." The fun, games, music, food and shopping spectacular annually attracts thousands from families in the parish, all parts of Long Island, Brooklyn and New York City. Scene of the action is at Dartmouth Street and New Hyde Park Road in Garden City. Admission is free. Among the major highlights of the day are the packed 5 P.M. outdoor "Saturday" Mass and dramatic "Big Bucks Bonanza" drawing shortly after 10 P.M. Bouyed up by strong early returns in the "Big Bucks Bonanza" drawing, the Spirit Day Committee is pushing for sale of 800 tickets at $125 each which will guarantee a $25,000 Grand Prize and Five Runner-up prizes of $5,000 each. As many as five entrants may share a ticket if so registered. Equally important in reaching the "800" sale mark is the parallel award of $ 50,000 for the design and furnishing of a Chapel memorializing beloved Msgr. William F. Costello. The project is the shared work of a "Father John Student Design Team" (from Saint Anne's School) and two internationally known liturgical designers, Robert Rambusch and Larry Hoy of Renovata Studios. The duo coordinated the re-design and furnishing of Saint Anne's Church in 1993. If the "800" goal is not attained, the "Big Bucks" prizes and the Chapel Design/Furnishing award will be reduced proportionally. There's something for everyone in the family at "Spirit Day." The "Spirit Day" Committee will happily settle for a bright sunny day and an "800" Big Bucks Bonanza night!
