Navy Capt. Geoge E. Eichert, son of Theodora M. Eichert of Garden City, recently retired after 29 years of active-duty service in the Navy while serving as the chief of staff assigned to Navy Expeditionary Combat Command in Norfolk, Va.

Throughout his career, Eichert served in various billets, including a tour as operations officer assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 3 in Norfolk, Va. ; a tour as chief staff officer assigned to 20th Naval Construction Regiment in Gulfport, Miss. ; and a tour as deputy regional engineer assigned to Navy Region Mid-Atlantic in Norfolk, Va.

During his career, Eichert received several personal awards, campaign ribbons and medals, including the Legion of Merit, a Defense Meritorious Service Medal and a Meritorious Service Medal.

Eichert is a 1974 graduate of Garden City High School of Garden City. He is a 1978 graduate of University of Rochester, Rochester, N. Y. with a BS degree and a 1983 graduate of Stanford University, Stanford, Calif. with a MS degree.
