Workshop In Gerontology

The Nassau County Department of Senior Citizen Affairs will present a workshop entitled "Caregivers: Down the Block and Far Away." This program, the eighth one in the Department's series of Gerontology Workshops 2007, will be held on Tuesday, October 30 from 9:30 to 11:30 am at the Smeal Learning Center, 201 I.U. Willets Road, Albertson. Older persons, their caregivers, professionals in the aging network, and members of the community at large are invited to attend this workshop which will be offered free-of-charge. Registration is required in advance.

It has been documented that persons providing care to an older family member often suffer from a great deal of stress that can be exacerbated as they attempt to negotiate the maze of service providers and array of services that may be available to assist them with their caregiving duties. This workshop will identify many of the government-funded and private pay programs that can provide some of the services that will support the efforts of care-givers to keep their loved ones safely at home. The workshop presenters are Jolene Boden, LMSW, District Director Nassau/Suffolk, Jewish Association for Services for the Aged and Carolyn Kara-sick, LMSW, President of Island Care Management, Inc. They will discuss available services and how caregivers can access them, whether they are living near their loved ones or far away from them.

Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information and to reserve a seat for this workshop, please call the Nassau County Department of Senior Citizen Affairs at 227-8900. Directions and parking instructions will be forwarded upon registra-tion.
