Winthrop To Host "Walk To Remember" In recognition of National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness month, which aims to increase the community's understanding of the grief associated with the loss of an unborn or newborn child, Winthrop University Hospital's Perina-tal Bereavement Team will hold its fourth annual "Walk to Remember" on Saturday, October 6, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow. This annual memorial event enables parents, relatives and friends who have lost a child due to pregnancy complica-tions, stillbirth, early infant loss or fetal abnormalities to join together to walk in remembrance of their loved one. Last year close to 200 people partici-pated in Winthrop's third annual remembrance walk. "During National Pregnancy and Infant Loss month, hundreds of parents, healthcare professionals and friends across the United States will partici-pate in the annual 'Walk to Remember,' which was first held on September 26, 1986 in Chicago," said Eileen Magri, RN, Director of Nursing, Maternal Child Health at Winthrop University Hospital. The registration fee for Win-throp's fourth annual "Walk to Remember" is $25 per person; $40 per couple. The fee for senior citizens is $15 and children under 12 years of age may par-ticipate for free. The funds raised will support the work of Winthrop's Perinatal Bereavement Team, which is dedicated to providing education, comfort and support to help families cope with the loss of an infant. To register or make a donation for the Fourth Annual Walk to Remember, call Karen Hylton-McGuire RN, Win-throp's NICU Educator at (516) 663-9365.
