In their first appearance as a team, the U-10 girls Garden City Flash won all five games to take home the Covanta Cup as winners of the Gold division at the 2007 tournament. Despite the 90 degree heat and high humidity, the team sailed through their first three games, easily defeating East Meadow (5-0), Bethpage (6-0) and New Hyde Park (3-0). In the fourth game, the Flash's opponent, Westchester Patriots FC, overloaded the box, playing for 0-0 tie. However, early in the second half, the Flash capitalized on some tough talking and a timely near post cross to tuck in the game's only goal for a 1-0 win. In the fifth game, the Flash met their toughest competition, Plainview Old Bethpage, but still prevailed. Although POB scored on a breakaway (the only goal the Flash allowed over five games), Flash defenders took advantage of weak clearances to put in two long range efforts to seal a 2-1 victory and take home the hardware.

Throughout the tournament, the girls continuously worked as a team. Whether making the tough tackle, the smart pass or the timely cross, the Flash consistently displayed the skills and team play that have been stressed since late July. The coaches' focus on teaching all of the girls to play all of the positions allowed every team member to play multiple positions. Overall, the flash outscored their opponents 17-1, with wight different girls scoring in the tournament.

Congratulations to the 2007 Covanta Cup Champions Garden City Flash: Michaela Bruno, Grace Cameron, Kerry DeFliese, Nicole Derby, Katherine Galzerano, Isabel Klatt, Nicole leto, Julia McGuire, Katie Muldoon, Emily O'Neill and Chloe Stapleford and many thanks to the coaches, Joe Galzerano and Charlie Cameron.
