Deacon Appointed To Cathedral Staff

Deacon Constance Lorenz
Effective August 1, Deacon Constance Lorenz was appointed Director of Christian Education, Formation and Youth Ministry at the Episcopal Cathedral of the Incarnation. She will be responsible for the development and implementa-tion of all faith formation programming for the Cathedral community including young children, youth, young adults and adults.

The Reverend Constance Lorenz graduated from The George Mercer School of Theol-ogy in 1997 and was ordained to the permanent diaconate on June 28, 1997. Deacon Lorenz has served at Zion Church in Douglaston, Grace Church in Jamaica, The Church of St. Alban and the Martyr in St. Albans and in her home parish The Church of the Redeemer in Astoria.

On September 15, 2005, Deacon Connie joined the clergy at the Cathedral of the Incarnation. In addition to her liturgical functions as a deacon during the services at the Cathedral, she initiated the Cathedral's Prayer Shawl Ministry. Since October 8, 2006, members of the Cathedral have been participating in this ministry. The mission of the Prayer Shawl Ministry is to create a shawl prayerfully for a recipient. When the shawl is completed it is offered a final prayer before being sent along its way. To date, over 30 shawls have been created, blessed and delivered to those in need of comfort and solace.

For the past eight years, Deacon Connie's secular job has been an Administrative Assistant in the Cardiovascular Institute at Mount Sinai Medical Center. Prior to employment at Mount Sinai, she served for thirteen years as a Parish Administrator at the Church of the Redeemer in Astoria and then, more briefly at Christ Church, Manhasset. She brings a wide variety of skills and experience as an educator and teacher of adults, teenagers, and children. She is also a gifted administrator. The Cathedral Congregation is overjoyed that Deacon Connie will remain with them in her new job as Director of Christian Education, Formation and Youth Ministry.
