Labor Day has come and gone and it was indeed a bittersweet time at the pool. Folks just couldn't believe it. It was the last day and thank heavens, it was a beauty - in fact the whole weekend was just picture perfect. Many came each day and some just one or two days, but the lament was the same. Among those enjoying the activities were: Dorette and Leo Gallon, Irene and John Christie, Janet and Bruce Littlejohn, Marilyn LePetrie, May and Ray Finnerty, Helga Otte, and Doris and Werner Forster. See you all next year!

As though that was not enough, the next piece of news was of the upcoming Festival Day (Homecoming Day for our high school) on September 29 th. This is earlier than it's been for many years, but it all depends on the date of the big game at the school. It is a wonderful day for the family and it has something for everyone, so I hope to see all of you there.

Bea and Jim Mercadante are back from a lovely trip to the upper regions of Lake Champlain and they report having a lovely time in a relaxing place - an island in the upper lake where you seem to be transported to a quieter time. Good to have you home again.

Happy Birthday wishes go to Virginia Bertonis, who will be celebrating her special day on September 8 th, and while we have not seen Virginia up and about lately, we hope that all is well and she will soon be around town again soon. Bob Sexton and Bill Lincks will also be celebrating and both of them on the 11 th of September and we all wish them a wonderful day and a good year ahead with lots of happiness and good health for many years to come.

Happy 33 rd Wedding Anniversary wishes go to Chris and Jim Adelmann who will do their celebrating on the 7 th of September. May you have a great day and a wonderful year ahead filled with health and happiness for you both.

For the Bridge players September brings much to look forward to. The Casino Ladies Lunch/Bridge will start their season on the 18 th of September and I'm sure they will have a full house. The folks over at Cherry Valley Club will be holding their Dinner/Bridge on Saturday, September 15 th. This is a new idea and day they are trying so make sure you get your reservations in. Any questions - call the club or Chairman George Rivara . The Garden City Country Club will be holding their Ladies Luncheon/Bridge on September 13 th. Joan Nedelka and Rose Forgione report that reservations are coming in for their Sunday, Sept. 23 rd Bridge, Card and Games party and they are limited to 20 tables at the Senior Center (that's all they can fit in) so be sure you get your reservation in promptly (the food is great and the price is right).

The folks on Kilburn Road are gearing up for their block party. They took last year off, but are now back in full swing. Sometimes it's good to take time off because when you come back to it you have a fresh perspective. Block parties are good family events too.

Hofstra University's Grey Wig Productions presented the musical "Oklahoma" on the Labor Day weekend and some of the regulars were in attendance such as Barbara Wilson with a friend and Sally and Tom Richmond from Garden City. They were surprised to learn that after producing wonderful shows for 33 years, they have not been offered time slots at Hofstra for the coming year. What a loss to those who appreciated their productions and what a loss to Hofstra's long and welcome outreach to their Long Island audience. If you have enjoyed their performances write to Dr. Stuart Rabinowitz, president, Hofstra University, 1000 Hempstead, N.Y. 11549-1000. Don't think things can't happen if you don't tell those in charge you want them. See you next week.
