Dr. T. Berry Brazelton To Speak At Adelphi

Adelphi University's Institute for Parenting is proud to host Dr. T. Berry Brazelton, who will present a parent community forum, "Stresses and Supports for Today's Families," on Thursday, October 18, 2007, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., in Adelphi University's Ruth S. Harley University Center, 1 South Avenue, Garden City. The forum will be followed by an interactive Q&A session focusing on parenting and child development issues. Free childcare will be offered for parents who wish to attend. Pre-registration for child care is required.

Dr. Brazelton is a pioneer in the field of child development. He has published 40 books on pediatrics and child development, including the best-selling "Brazelton Way" series comprising of Sleep, Discipline, Calming Your Fussy Baby, Feeding Your Child, Toilet Training, Understanding Sibling Rivalry, and Mastering Anger and Aggression, and Touchpoints Three to Six, among many others. He is most recognized for his Emmy-Award winning show What Every Baby Knows that provided guidance in raising children. In 2002, Dr. Brazelton was awarded the World of Children Award for his achievements in child advocacy.

Dr. Brazelton has worked to improve childcare support for all working parents and founded the Brazelton Touchpoints Center at Children's Hospital Boston in 1993 to further his work. In 1998, he established the Brazelton Touchpoints Project, Inc., a non-profit organization, to support the Center's programs and other work with children and families.

Dr. Brazelton's foremost achievement in pediatrics is his Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scale (NBAS), called "The Brazelton." It is used worldwide, clinically and in research, to assess the physical and neurological responses of newborns, their emotional well being and their individual differences. Currently, he is clinical professor of pediatrics emeritus at Harvard Medical School and professor of psychiatry and human development at Brown University. In 1995, Harvard Medical School established the T. Berry Brazelton Chair in Pediatrics.
