GCAA-5th Grade Boys Basketball Finishes Season Undefeated. The GCAA-5th Grade Boys Basketball team, the 2006-2007 4th grade GCAA Island Garden travel squad, won both the regular season and championship playoffs for the Rockville Centre Summer League A Division. The GCAA-Gators finished the outdoor regular season with an 8-0 record and ended the season with 2 strong playoff victories. The primary focus of this team was defense and passing to the open man on the fast break as the GCAA Gator team scored more than 45 points in their first 3 outdoor games. The fast break was led by Tom "take it to the hoop" Tubridy, Pat "pure shooter" Gibbons, Colin "crossover dribble" DeAngelo and Jonathan "no look pass" Granville. All four players spent some time at the point slicing and dicing their opponents. When the team was not fast breaking, Michael "silky smooth" Flood, Ryan "teardrop" Smith and Kyle "the bomber" Brattan provided strong perimeter jump shooting while Connor "the human eraser" Muldoon and Lucas "the inside force" Hildreth crashed the boards with reckless abandon. The Muldoon-Hildreth post team not only provided strong rebounding but also were proficient scorers in the paint. The team is coached by Tom "get back and play defense" Granville and Eamon "finish at the hoop" Eamon Tubridy. The final championship game was exciting as St. Patrick's was looking to take down the undefeated GCAA Gators team. Defense kept the GCAA team in the game in the first half as the shots that went in all season did not fall. The first half ended with the score tied 12-12. After a motivational talk from the Granville-Tubridy coaching team, the GCAA Gators came out inspired in the 2nd half and played intense defense limiting St. Patrick's team to 2 points in the 2nd half. The offensive attack was spearheaded by Connor Muldoon and Pat Gibbons who both took advantage of scoring opportunities created by backdoor cuts and a motion type offense. The final score was 31-14. A celebration ensued at Baskin Robbins while the GCAA Gators displayed their trophies and talked about the upcoming basketball season.
