Recently, Redeemer Lutheran Church in Old Westbury and Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Garden City agreed to combine their ministries and to use the Redeemer facility, located on Jericho Tpke., to create a new Christian worship, education, and community outreach center.

The Ministry Team at Resurrection, led by Rev. William Harmon and Rev. Jeffrey Browning, will be in charge of directing efforts to develop ministry opportunities at the new site. According to Rev. Harmon, the team is considering various options. "While specific plans for the new center are still in development, we are committed to growing a ministry that reaches out to those in the surrounding communities. We are looking into ways of offering a broad array of worship, prayer groups, Christian education, and social opportunities," he said.

Rev. Browning, Resurrection's Pastor of Programs and Activities, added, "We intend to make every effort to be a good neighbor in our new location. Our Mission Statement makes it our purpose to 'CARE for those within and beyond our community'. We look forward to meeting with local leaders and officials to provide ministries that will benefit people in every surrounding neighborhood."

Commenting on the new venture, Laura Bauer, President of Resurrection-Garden City, said, "This is a very exciting opportunity, and we are eager to work with our new members from Redeemer to begin new ministries."

The site will serve as a satellite ministry of Resurrection. Possible new ministries include a Senior Exercise Program, Monthly Community Prayer Service, and expansion of the Preschool. The Preschool will continue to be a vital part of ministry at that location, with a variety of classes for three- and four-year-old children.
