Garden City Library News Registration for YA Programs Take advantage of the ease and convenience of registering for YA programs online. Simply email the Young Adult Librarian at mkelly@gardencitypl.org with Name, address, phone number, grade and program selection. The opening program for the fall season is a "Smoothies Workshop". Nancy Ardonetti will teach participants how to make a healthy smoothie and allow them to prepare their own creation. It will be held on Saturday, September 8 at 2 PM. The workshop will last 90 minutes. Registration will begin on Tuesday, August 28th. Students in grades 6-12 are welcome to register. The group will be limited to 20 participants. YA Guessing Game The winner for the seventh week of the YA Guessing Game has been determined. Congratulations to Abigail Hepworth for guessing the amount of Fruit Snack bags in the jar. There is only one week left to guess. How many snack bags will fit in a large jar??? Put your guess in the wooden box. Summer Reading Club - 2007 YNK- You Never Know at your library, the Young Adult Summer Reading Club is in full swing. Get a mini review in on paper or online so that you do not miss out on winning prizes or getting an in-vitation to the Back to School Bash. This year the Bash features a DDR, Dance Dance Revolution led by a DJ. The Back to School Bash, held on Wednesday evening August 29, is the perfect way to see old friends or meet new ones before school begins on Tuesday, September 4th. All you have to do is register and read one of the Summer Reading requirements for school and the invitation is yours. COMING ATTRACTIONS On Wednesday, September 12, registration will begin for a two part program, "Road Map to College". The first part of this seminar will explore which tests are best for the students' needs and what is the best time to take the tests. The best preparation strategies will be discussed. This part will be held on Wednesday, September 26th at 7 PM. The second part will focus on choosing the schools, completing the application and writing the essay. This will be held on Wednesday, October 3rd at 7 PM. Each session runs for 90 minutes and there will be ample time allotted for questions and answers. This program is intended for students and a parent or guardian. Registration covers both parts. On Saturday, September 15th registration will begin for the first Yak & Snack of the school year. The book to be discussed is Among the Hidden by Margaret Peterson Haddix. The group will meet on Saturday October 13 at 2:30 PM for refreshments and debate about the book. You may pick up a copy of the book at registration. On Saturday September 22 registration will begin for the popular Babysitting Workshop. This two part class will be held on Wednesday, October 10th and Wednesday, October 24th. Plan ahead and get a place in this program. Open to those in grades 6-12.
