Nearly New Shop Celebrating 50 Years of Service

On September 11, when the Nearly New Shop reopens in the basement of the Cathedral House, it will be the start of its 50th year of operations. Styles may change (only to return a few years later), but people generally do not. They still love a good bargain.

The volunteers who staff the shop are a dedicated group of ladies, most of whom have been volunteering at the shop for a long time. It is thanks to these ladies that the shop continues to operate. All of the money that is realized from the shop is donated to help the Cathedral defray the cost of upkeep and operation.

From its inception, the Cathedral of the Incarnation has always played a pivotal role in the Village of Garden City. It has tried to meet the needs of not only its parishioners but also its neighbors. The shop is eager to welcome all people and encourages them to visit the Nearly New. It is open Tuesday and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and is located at 50 Cathedral Avenue. It is totally dependent on donation of clothing from all its friends and neighbors. Clothes can either be donated outright or sold through the shop and the purchase price shared 50/50 between the consignor and the shop. Clothing that is being donated may be brought in at any time. Clothing that is to be sold 50/50 may only be brought in from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

So help the Nearly New Shop celebrate its 50th year by cleaning out your drawers and closets and bringing your castoffs down starting September 11! For further information about the Nearly New Shop contact the Cathedral Office at 746-2955.
