GC Buffalos Swimming Across America!

The Garden City Buffalos Swim Team
The sun rose early on Sunday morning for 16 members and friends of the Garden City Buffalos. For the past 5 years now, the herd has grown their Swim Across America Team due in a large part to the efforts of our team Captain, Ken Aneser. As Brad Hildreth our anchor exclaimed, "if it weren't for Ken motivating me year after year I would simply, like an old soldier fade away." Brad and the new 'Grand One' Bob Freeman finished simultaneously, with smiles on their faces they emerged from the gentle tide of the Long Island Sound at Morgan Park, Glen Cove, once again exhilarated by this year's accomplishment. They were greeted by the rest of the team on the beach: Dave and Sue Casey, Jim Moran, Harry and John Blair, the Paisley clan MJ (Pender), Thomas, Tim known as the ancient one, to the herd, Mimi (Aneser), Ian, Jim and Cathy Gerspach and Brian Noonan. As their team captain Ken finished his trademark 5k swim (3.1 miles) to the cheers of his 5 children in the crowd the group although a little tired and exasperated relished in their victory and a job well done. As a team, The GC Buffalos raised over $35,000 for the event. Swim Across America provides funds for cancer research in numerous facilities throughout our area and the rest of the country. Proceeds from the Nassau/Suffolk event support The Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center at Mercy Hospital, the SAA Lab at Memorial Sloan-Kettering in Manhattan, as well as two new beneficiaries, the Children's Hospital at Montefiore in the Bronx in partnership with the SASS foundation, SAA will support two Breast Cancer Awareness Days on Long Island in October. The concept is simple we all have so many friends and relatives affected by cancer, why not swim and do something to make a difference? For the168 swimmers who went into the water on Sunday, we congratulate you on your success and for continuing to support this great cause! We would welcome anyone who wants to join our team next year. You can find out more information about Swim Across America at www.swimacrossamerica.org , and The GC Buffalos at www.gcbuffalos.com
