Love it or hate it, the Long Island Rail Road has been a part of Nassau and Suffolk County's life as much as the beaches of the Atlantic, the LIE and the Long Island Sound. Originally planned early in the 19th century as a shortcut to Boston, the LIRR evolved into something it was never meant to be - the largest commuter railroad in the country, if not the best-run. Stan and Arthur will combine to produce a breezy history of "The Route of the Dashing Commuter." Stan has just written a history of the line, "Long Island Rail Road,'" filled with amusing anecdotes. The book traces the rise, fall and rise again of the LIRR. Stan is an accomplished writer in the fields of hockey and transit, with such titles as: "The Subway And The City." and "Moving Millions," among others. Arthur has one of the finest collections of LIRR memorabilia and photos. He shares much of them on his website, arratsarrchive.com.
