Police Report: Mischief and Mayhem

On August 10, 10:11 AM, at the GC Hotel, someone broke the window of a Dodge Caravan and took a $500 GPS from it... On the same day, 8:31 AM, also at the GC Hotel, someone broke the window of a car and took a $400 Ipod and a $500 GPS... Between August 9 and 10, someone slashed the tires on cars parked at Chestnut Street, Garden Street, Clinton Rd., Tremont Street, and Locust Street. An investigation continues... A 22-year-old GC male was arrested for alleged DWI (.13%) at North Avenue on August 11 at 4:19 AM... Between August 11 and 12, someone burglarized a Third Street residence, after removing an air conditioner from a second floor window. A $700 SONY computer was taken. Beer cans were found at the base of the ladder, and the air conditioner was on the roof of the house... On August 12, 4:37 AM, a 28-year-old Hempstead man was arrested for alleged DWI (.10%) and for alleged speeding at Clinton Rd... On August 12, 10:36 PM, a 47-year-old man from Palm Harbor, Florida, was arrested for aggravated unlicensed operation 3rd degree, ( 6 suspensions, 5 dates) at Franklin Avenue. The motorist was initially stopped for the misuse of a cell phone... Over $8,000 in jewelry, a $2,000 computer, and a $2,000 42"plasma TV, were taken from a New Hyde Park Rd. house during the day on August 9. A rear door was found pried open... Someone took a $100 car stereo from a car that had been impounded by the Public Administrator at County Seat Drive on August 7... PO Sansone stopped a car whose driver was not wearing a seatbelt at Clinton Rd. on August 8, 1:25 AM. The motorist fled in his car and eventually was apprehended by police at Old Country Rd., in Westbury, and charged with stealing the car. The man was from Dale City, Virginia... On August 9, 12:18 PM, an 18-year-old Baldwin man, who works for Cheap Charlie's Tree Service, fell 30 feet to the ground at Weyford Terrace, after his safety rope failed. Police took him to Winthrop Hospital for back and hip injuries... On August 10, 1:29 PM, PO Reilly and EMT Zembera answered a call at a GC residence for a pregnant woman who was having contractions. The woman gave birth to a healthy baby girl in the ambulance...

Fire Responses:

On August 7, an investigation of a power outage on the Adelphi University campus, revealed that the cause was an overheated motor in a basement there at Earle Hall... A plumber soldering a pipe in a bathroom at a Wellington Rd. house caused an unintentional activation of an alarm there on August 8... Natural ventilation was used to dissipate smoke at a Harrison Street house on August 9... A cracked water filter caused damage at a Sackville Rd. house on August 9... Power lines came down in the rear of St. Paul's Place on August 10, and there was a fire on a tree, at Hampton Rd., due to arcing wires. LIPA was notified... FD disconnected a light ballast at a Stewart Avenue location on August 10... A gas engine used to power a power washer was determined to be the source of carbon monoxide at a Third Place house on August 13. The operator was instructed to move away from the house and mechanical/natural ventilation was used... The FD aided the Mineola FD at the scene of a fire at the Getty station, Jericho Tpke., on August 14...That's all this week. G. T.
