Police Report: Mischief and Mayhem Between August 3 and 6, a chain hoist weighing a ton was stolen from the theater at Adelphi University. Value was $ 6, 000...On August 6, 4:45 PM, PO Oswald observed a motorist cutting through the Mobil station in order to avoid a traffic light there at Meadow Street. The motorist was charged for 2 outstanding warrants; one from Nassau County for the criminal possession of a controlled substance, and an outstanding warrant from Hempstead for a sus-pended license... Between July 23 and 24, 2 license plates valued at $100 were stolen from a car parked at a Euston Rd. residence...A $230 2006 BMX 20" bicycle was taken from the rear parking garage at Sears on August 4...On August 5, 4:27 AM, PO Oswald stopped a 34-year-old male motorist at Clinton Rd. for alleged speeding at 50 in a 30 mph zone, alleged DWI (.10%), and numerous other traffic law violations, at Clinton Rd... On August 3, a truck stop was conducted at Clinton Rd. and 11 trucks were inspected with 9 trucks taken out of service, and 86 tickets issued; 7 for overweight violations. DOT was at scene... Fire Responses: An unintentional alarm was set off by workmen at Third Street on August 1... Also that day, there was a kitchen fire at a Wyatt Rd. house where there was smoke damage throughout the dwell-ing...Cleaners burned tin foil in a microwave oven at Woodruff Hall, Adelphi University, on August 3, causing an alarm there...On August 4, the FD made a forcible entry at a Heath Place residence and used a handline for the full extinguishing of a fire there, which was caused by a short in an exterior outlet box...On the same day, water leaked from a bathroom at a Whitehall Blvd. house and dripped through light fixtures in a garage there, which activated an alarm...FD investigated an odor at a Euston Rd house on August 6, which was most likely the result of the use of solvents during construction...An overheated HVAC motor caused smoke in the basement at Eddy Hall, Adelphi University on August 7... A pullbox was accidentally struck by construction debris, causing an alarm at the Hampshire House, Seventh Street, on August 7... FD helped an older woman gain entry to her Dartmouth Street house on August 7...Firemen used 2 shopvacs to help remove water from a basement at Pine Street on August 7... That's all this week. G. T.
