Resident Wins Fishing Tournament

Steve Vaslikos of Garden City with the winning smallmouth bass he landed on the first day of the Pennsylvania fishing tournament
Steve Vasilikos of Garden City won the Lukan's seventh annual fishing tournament held on July 26-29 in Hawley, Pennsylvania with a 3 lb., 9 oz. smallmouth bass narrowly defeating Pete Leibman who reeled in a 3 lb, 5 oz bass for a second-place finish. The monster bass earned Vasilikos the Lukan's Farm Resort Big Bass of the year award. An avid outdoorsman, Vasilikos had previously finished second three times in the catch-and-release event. Leibman, who had won the previous two years on his home waters and had hoped to retire the hand-carved wooden trophy, said he thought the key to Vasilikos' victory was his superior casting ability. Dennis Menger, the early leader on the first day of the tournament, fell into a tie for third place with Leo Stimmler with a smallmouth that tipped the scales at 1 lbs, 9 oz. Menger said in such a highly competitive field he was pleased with his third-place finish and can't wait to return to Hawley for next year's July competition.
