News From The Children's Room

Can't let the summer end without one final chance to win - 25 families will receive 2 coupons for 4 admissions to the New York Aquarium at Coney Island. This is a big year for the New York Aquarium they are celebrating their 50th Anniversary at Coney Island. The raffle will begin August 3 at 9:30 AM and will conclude August 10 at 3:00 PM. Come in and enter!

The winners of the Fifth guessing game were Emma Rubino and Kathleen Beatty! Both guessed the exact amount of 62 and split the bucket of bath toys. Congratulations winners! Winners of Raffle #4 for Grades 3-5 were Meredith Aneser, Caroline Aprigliano, Grace Cameron, Olivia Guarnieri, Danielle Heavy, Christina Kutulos, Julianne Larsson, Alyssa Mullins, Olivia O'Hare, Mary Kate O'Sullivan, Mairead Pfaff, Alexandra Philippas, James Rumsey, Allison Schmidt, Haley Sheridan, Shannon Sproul, Lauren Tepper, Matt Vani, Caroline Vesnaver and Megan Walsh. Winners for Grades K-2 were Lucy Ambach, Tommy Aneser, Lauren Conway, Jake Deutsch, Garrett Fitzsimons, Michael Greco, Oliver Hvidsten, Annalise LoBiondo, Jessica Liberpoulos, Grant Krawiec, Nicholas Krawiec, Kelly McDonald, Samantha Mauceri, Mikayla Mehling, Maria Noyes, Julila Renick, Emma Rubino, John Skahill, Noelle Sweeney, and Ryan Walsh. Winners received a puz-zle maze. Congratulations to all!

Registration for the Summer Reading Club continues in the Children's room through August 8th. Flyers with information on all of our summer programs are available in the Children's Room.

Join us for the last summer Monday story times on August 6 at the following times:

10:00 AM Mother Goose (for children ages 18-29 months with an adult)

11:00 AMToddlers (for children ages 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 with an adult)

1:30 PMPreschool (for children 3-5)

7:00 PMFor children entering Kindergarten and First Grade

No registration is required for the summer storytimes. Tickets will be distributed one-half hour prior to the program. No siblings please!

The Talent Shows, held on July 11 and July 18 were a complete success! Need-less to say, the talent in this community is absolutely incredible! Thanks to all who participated and to those who came to support the talent.

Shirley Ruby, craftmaster extraordinaire, will be here July 31. Children ages

2 1/2 - 5 will create a Sunny Windsock either at 9:30 or 10:30. For Grades K-2, at 1:00 make a Sherlock Pup! For Grades 3-5 at 2:30 PM, it's Sher"look" Holmes! Registration for each of these programs began July 24, so check with the library for availability.

As a reminder, the Children's room will once again be holding book club discussions for the children entering Grades 2-5. These popular programs are 45-minute sessions. Each child should bring a "brown bag" dinner. Desserts and beverages are provided. The schedule is as follows:

The New Friends In A Book Club! For those entering third grade.

July 30 at 5:45PM - How to be Cool in the Third Grade. Registration began July 9.

The Page Turners - for children entering grades 4 and 5:

August 2 at 5:45PM - From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. Registration began July 12.

It's hard to believe how fast the summer goes by! The last day for the summer book club will be August 8th. We will end with two Grand Finales - Strumming & Drumming for the pre-schoolers on Tuesday, August 7th at 11 AM. For the K-5 students, Petra Pup-pets' show "Daffy Detective Squad" will be on August 8th at 7:00 PM. Don't forget these are "Invitation Only events". Each child receives their invitation when they come to the library for their first prize!

Please check the library website www.gardencitypl.org for upcoming events and registration dates. Funding for these programs has been provided by the Friends of the Garden City Public Library. Priority for registration and participation is given to children who are Garden City Public Library cardholders.
