Garden City Retired Mens Club Calendar Of Events

The Garden City Retired Men's Club is a non-profit membership organization formed in April 1961 for the purpose of providing educational and recreational activities for the retired male senior citizens of the Garden City Community. The organization is non-sectarian and non-political.

All retired men 55 years or older residing in the Incorporated Village of Garden City in the State of New York are eligible for membership upon paying a five (5) dollar initiation fee. If you are eligible and interested to join us, pleased come. Every Monday is Open House. Or call Joe Leto 248-9022.

The Club House facility is located at No. 6 Golf Club Lane (directly behind Lord & Taylor parking lot). The building is open every day of the week, except Friday and offers 2 regulation size pool tables, television, cards/tables board games as well as outdoor Bocce, horseshoes and shuffleboard. Our Programs Committee is planning a very active speaker program. Come join us!

One More Atlantic City Trip??? - yes!! yes!! yes!!

There definitely will be an August Atlantic City trip. Monday August 27 th. Call Ed Palkot, (437-0397) for the latest news regarding this trip. Non-member residents of Garden City are invited.

EXERCISE program

Our Tuesday morning exercise program will resume Tuesday September 25 th. The classes will run for 10 weeks into December, we will skip Election Day. Don't forget your 3 lb. Weights. Sports Authority is running a 20% discount sale on weights. "See you in September." We will keep in touch. Non-member male Garden City residents are invited to join us.

The Luncheon trip to the US Merchant Marine Academy is all set for Wednesday August 22 nd. Price $15.00 per person. The Recreation Department has advised us there will be an additional $5.00 per person charge for round trip bus transportation from our Golf Club Lane Center. The bus leaves at 11:30 AM. We expect to be seated for lunch at 12:30. the $15.00 lunch charge will be paid at the Academy. The $5.00 bus charge will be collected as you board the bus. Our reservation number of attendees is limited to 44 (The seating capacity of the bus). We must stop taking reservations when we reach that number. At present we have 16 confirmed reservations, which leaves 28 open spaces. Interested??? Please call Joe Leto at 248-9022. Non-member Garden City residents are invited to join us.

second big birthday bash is blooming

Thursday September 20 th is the date of our second Cookout/Birthday Bash. We will celebrate the birthday with members and male non member Garden City residents who have reached or will reach their 80 th birthday anytime during the year 2007. Male, non-member residents of Garden City wishing to participate can contact Joe Leto at 248-9022 to be included as a guest of the Retired Men's Club.

The Bocce tournament kicked off right on s;schedule. In the first of the opening round matches the Palkot/ Basile team narrowly defeated Springer/Nothel, despite the fact we imported special Irish Bocce balls for the Springer team. Matches will continue until we uncover a non-Italian champion team. We have 11 teams signed up. Ideally we would like to have 16. We can accept last minute entries until Aug. 8 th. speaker program to resume in september

George Salem has scheduled Dr. Larry Gottlieb to address our group on Monday Sept. 17 th. Dr. Gottlieb, an internist, will speak on problems and cures of the heart. October, November and December speakers will be announced as soon as we make the necessary arrangements.
