Garden City's Kevin Derle connects for a single

Garden City - 9 LI Astros (Team# 2) - 2

With a combination of strong pitching and good hitting Garden City took the first game of an afternoon doubleheader against the LI Astros on Sunday, July 1st at Herricks High School with a final score of 9 - 2. Mike Mancusi and Terri Curtin controlled the pitching for Garden City allowing only 6 hits.

The offense generated 15 hits with Fred Stutzmann and Mike Mancusi going 3 for 4, Mark Bader 3 for 3 and Joe Young connecting twice at three plate appearances.

Game 11:

Garden City - 7 LI Astos (Team# 2) - 1

Garden City finished the second game of the doubleheader with a 7 - 1 victory with key hits provided by Paul Chilelli (2 for 3), Mark Bader (2 for 3) and Joe Young (2 for 2).

Starting pitcher Andrew Cauchi was in control the entire game allowing 6 hits with 2 strikeouts over seven innings to earn his second win of the season. The win improved Garden City's record to 8 and 3.

Game 12:

Garden City - 2 North Shore - 4

Despite Garden City leading off with two runs in the first inning the Vikings from North Shore held on to win in an exciting extra inning game played at Community Park on Tuesday evening July 2nd. The North Shore pitching allowed only 3 Garden City hits. Game 13:

Garden City - 3 East Meadow - 0

On Sunday morning July 8th Garden City and East Meadow were locked in a pitchers duel. Colin Ridgway started for Garden City and pitched six complete innings allowing 0 runs, 5 strikeouts and 1 walk.

Garden City rallied in the top of the 9th inning and scored 3 runs. The rally started with a lead off walk to Mark Bader, a single by Andrew Cauchi and contact hitting by Ryan Dowling and Donny McKennett. Catcher Paul Chilelli and centerfielder Kevin Derle each had 2 hits during the game.

Relief pitcher Terri Curtin earned the win allowing 0 runs and only 1 hit over his three inning of work.
