Garden City's Recreation Department chief Kevin Ocker has been elected as the only Long Islander in a leadership position of the state-wide New York State Recreation and Park Society.

Ocker was elected in April to a two-year term as treasurer of the group's board of directors.

The Society was founded in 1940 and is the principal organization promoting quality recreation and park opportunities for all citizens through education, training, technical assistance and other support to local, state and federal recreation and park providers.

Mayor Peter A. Bee said, "Garden City is fortunate to have someone of the training and ability of Kevin Ocker to head our parks and recreation activities. His department is one of the most visible Village departments and the one that has the most contact with residents. We're happy to share his experience and ability with our colleagues across the State."
