Village Sports summer gazebo concerts for 2007 The Garden City Recreation Department is pleased to announce their 2007 Summer Gazebo Concerts Series. All Concerts are held on Thursday evenings beginning at 7:15 p.m. at the Gazebo on the corner of Stewart and Hilton Avenues. Please bring a lawn chair and enjoy the evening. In case of bad weather, the concert would be moved into Cluett Hall. new mini golf course open The Garden City Recreation Department is pleased to announce the opening of Community Park's new Mini Golf Course on Friday, June 1st. Due to some safety concerns with the nearby softball fields, the course will be open during the hours listed below until the safety fencing is installed. Until further notice, the hours will be: Friday, June 1noon to 10 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The fees have been set for residents and non-residents: $3 for residents seniors and children under 12: $5 for residents over 12; $4 for non-resident children under 12 and $6 for non-residents over 12. summer yoga for adults Our summer session of yoga will begin the week of June 4th. Connie McKnight, our certified yoga instructor, has designed classes with all ages in mind. Each 12 week course will cost $60 and each class is 55 minutes long. All classes are held in Cluett Hall at St. Paul's. Any resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City is invited to join these relaxing classes. tennis camp announced There are limited openings available in our tennis camps. Our Tennis Camps are held at the Community Park Tennis Facility and are open to Garden City residents ages 7-18. Please visit the Recreation Office in Village Hall for further details.

preschool camp announced The Garden City Recreation Department will be conducting a Pre-School Camp for girls and boys 3.5 to 5 years old who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. Children who attend this camp MUST be 3.5 years by the start of the session. This camp will be held at the St. Paul's Cluett Hall from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The cost of each session will be $75. Arts and crafts, music, nature, and stories will fill the one and one half hour class. The sessions are as follows: Session I:July 9 thru July 13 Session II:July 16 thru July 20 Session III:July 23 thru July 27 Session IV:July 30 thru August 3 Session V: August 6 thru August 10 Please make selections carefully as fees are not returnable. summer lacrosse camp The Recreation Department will offer a Lacrosse Camp for Boys and Girls entering 3rd-6th grades in September, 2007. The program will teach participants the stick handling, catching, scooping and the fundamentals of the game. The children will also play games in a structured setting. No previous lacrosse experience is necessary. The program is conducted by Wally Cook, certified lacrosse referee and coach, on the fields at Stewart Field. The camp will run from 9:30 a.m. to noon each day. This camp will be held during the following weeks: July 2-5 (No Wednesday)Cost - $60 July 9-12 (Monday - Thursday)Cost - $75 Please make selections carefully as fees are not returnable. summer soccer camp The Garden City Recreation Department will be conducting a Youth Soccer Camp for boys and girls who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City during the weeks of July 30 through August 2, and August 6 through 9, 2007 at Community Park (behind the pool). This instructional program will be offered for boys and girls Ages 6 through 12. Youngsters MUST be six by the start of the camp AND entering first grade in September 2007 in order to register for this camp.proof of age will be required. The Two Hour Session will run from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., at a cost of $60 and will focus on individual skill development. The five hour session will run from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at a cost of $125. The five hour session will include an hour lunch break and swim session supervised by the Soccer Camp Staff, to be followed by full field games. summer basketball camp The Garden City recreation department will be conducting a Youth Basketball Camp for boys and girls who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City from June 25 to June 28. This camp will be held in the St. Paul's Field House under the direction of Pat Kennedy. An instructional camp will be offered for boys and girls entering GRADES 3 & 4 in September, 2007 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. and a session for boys and girls entering GRADES 5 & 6 in September, 2007 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. There will be a limit of 50 children for each session. The purpose of this program is to provide instruction in self improvement, basketball fundamentals, team play, group cooperation, and, most important of all, FUN! The cost of this camp will be $60 which includes a T-shirt. Please make selections carefully as fees are not returnable. summer baseball camp There are still openings in our summer baseball camp for 9-11 year olds. This camp will take place at Community Park the weeks of July 16 and July 23 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please visit the Recreation Office in Village Hall for further information.
roller hockey summer camp The Garden City Recreation Department is offering a summer Roller Hockey Camp this year at the Community Park's Roller Hockey Rinks. The camp will be a combination of skill driven activities and pick up games. This camp is open to any village resident between the ages of 5-10. All participants are required to supply their own equipment. The schedule will be as follows: Weeks of Camp Monday, July 9 - Thursday, July 12 Monday, August 13 - Thursday, August 16 Times - Ages 5-68:30 a.m. to 10 a.m Ages 7-88:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Ages 9-1010:30 a.m. to noon Cost - $60 per week. summer roller hockey program for ages 11 - adult The Recreation Department is offering a summer Roller Hockey Program for residents of the village ages 11-14 and adults ages 30 and over. This program consists of pickup games and will be held at the Community Park Hockey Rinks. The six week schedule will be as follows: Ages 11-14Mondays at 7 p.m. beginning July 9th Adults (30 and over)Wednesdays at 7 p.m. beginning July 11th The cost to join this program will be $25. All equipment must be provided by the participant. Space is limited so please register early. To register, please visit the Recreation Office in Village Hall.
summer adult tennis lessons The Garden City Recreation Department will conduct evening tennis lesson for adults who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. The lessons will be held at the Garden City Community Park tennis facility and will run one evening a week. There will be a maximum of four players on a court. The dates, times, and fees will be as follows: Session 1Fee April 30-June 11Mon., Tues., Wed., 7:00-8:00 p.m. or (6 weeks) or Thurs. 8:00-9:00 p.m.$120 Session 2 July 9-Aug. 2Mon., Tues., Wed., 7:30-8:30 p.m. or (4 weeks) or Thurs. 8:30-9:30 p.m.$ 80 Session 3 August 6-30Mon., Tues., Wed., 7:30-8:30 p.m. or (4 weeks) or Thurs. 8:30-9:30 p.m.$ 80 To register for any of these sessions, please come to the Recreation Office in Village Hall. Payment must accompany your registration form and separate checks will be needed for each session you register for. Our tennis pro will then set up lessons on our courts with people with like abilities. You will be emailed or called with your lesson assignment.
interested in playing softball? If you are a resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City, age 18 or older, who would like to play softball in one of the Recreation Department's softball leagues, call the Recreation Office at 465-4075 to put your name on our "player list." We sometimes have coaches who are looking for extra players to round out their rosters. Call and leave your name, age, address, and phone number and we will keep your information on file for the team who is looking for players.
