Opening Day For Garden City Connie Mack Baseball

Game 1: Garden City - 8 LI Astros (Team# 3) - 3

Game 2: Garden City - 11 LI Astros (Team# 3) - 1

The 17-18 year old Garden City Connie Mack Baseball team opened their 2007 Summer Season at the St. Paul's field with two victories over the visiting LI Astros3 team.

In the first game GC starter Colin Ridgway completed 6 innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits while striking out 8 and walking 1. The opening game offense was lead by a key two-out single by Terry Curtin driving in two runs. Outfielder Joe LaCorte added to the offense by going 2 for 2 as well as triples by catcher Paul Chilelli, second baseman Fred Stutzmann and a double by outfielder Donny McKennett. Relief pitcher Terry Curtin closed out the game by pitching the seventh inning.

The Garden City offense continued in the second game lead by Fred Stutzmann who went 2 for 2. Key hits were also provided by Kyle Boelsen, Andrew Cauchi, Mike Mancusi and Joe Young. Starting pitcher Andrew Cauchi recorded his first win on the summer season allowing one run on five hits while recording five strikeouts.

Game 3: Garden City - 0 Glen Cove - 5

On the team's first away night game of the early season, Garden City could not combine their hits during the game to generate any scoring despite both Will Volz and Terry Curtin both getting 2 hits apiece.

Game 4: Garden City - 5 South Shore Indians - 0

Garden City returned to their winning ways on June 9th against the Indians in a 5-0 victory at Tully Field in New Hyde Park. Centerfielder Kevin Derle went 2 for 2 and two walks and extra-hitter Terry Curtin continued his hitting production by going 3 for 3. Key base running of Andrew Cauchi and Fred Stutzmann added to the Garden City scoring effort. Colin Ridgway was again in control from the mound recording his second win of the season allowing only 2 hits, recording 6 strikeouts and 1 walk.

Game 5: Garden City - 5 LI Mariners - 6

In a back and forth 10 inning game played at Community Park on June 14th, Garden City could not capitalize on several scoring opportunities during the game leaving a total of 15 runners on base.

The combined pitching for Garden City of Andrew Cauchi and Colin Ridgway held Garden City in the game. Their efforts recorded 9 strikeouts while allowing 11 hits and four earned runs. The offense was lead by Donny McKennett who went 2 for 4. Hits were also provided by Terry Curtin, Fred Stutzmann, Will Volz, Andrew Cauchi, Colin Ridgway and Kyle Boelsen.

Game 6: Garden City - 4 Bellmore - 0

On Saturday, June 16th the pitching combination of Mike Mancusi, Terry Curtin and catcher Matt Thaler allowed the Bellmore team to gather only two hit as Garden City won the first game of the afternoon doubleheader at Community Park. The offense was lead by the hitting of Fred Stuzmann who went 3-4. Throughout the game good defensive play was showcased by Garden City's third baseman Will Volz.

Game 7: Garden City - 3 Bellmore - 1

The second game continued to show Garden City's strength on the pitchers mound as Fred Stutzman recorded his first win on the season by holding Bellmore to only one run. Key hits were provided by Andrew Cauchi who went 2 for 3 and a triple and by Kyle Boelsen who went 2 for 2 with a late game double.

Garden City will try and improve their 5-2 season record when they match-up against first place team Levittown on Sunday at Garden City's Community Park with the first game scheduled to begin at 12 noon. Andrew Cauchi and Colin Ridgway are the scheduled pitchers.
