Arrest For Burglary

The Nassau County Police reports the details of the arrest of two subjects for a residential burglary that occurred in Garden City on Thursday, 6/07/07 at 9:45 a.m.

According to detectives, Garden City Police Officers Kevin Reilly and Rocco Marceda responded to a 911 call for a suspicious vehicle on the corner of Kilburn Road and South Avenue. As the officers arrived, they observed a 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix leave at a high rate of speed. The officers attempted to pull the vehicle over and the driver refused to comply but continued to drive in a reckless manner at excessive speeds. The officers were able to stop the vehicle at Nassau Boulevard and Bell Street in West Hempstead. As P.O. Reilly attempted to remove the driver from the auto, the driver reversed the auto and attempted to speed off with the officer clinging to the vehicle. The passenger was punching the officer during this time. The vehicle came to a stop and both officers were able to subdue the driver, even though he continued to kick and punch them. The passenger then exited the auto clutching a blue bag and began punching the officers in an attempt to free the driver. Both subjects were then placed under arrest with assistance from assisting officers. The driver was identified as Jozef Bez, 53, of Brooklyn. The passenger is Ruza Hak, 47, of the same address.

The blue bag the passenger was clutching contained in excess of $30,000 worth of jewelry that was allegedly proceeds from a residential burglary of a home on Kilburn Road. The officers did not require immediate medical attention.

The investigation has revealed that these defendants may be wanted for burglaries in several other states and is ongoing.
