Challenger Baseball Returns For Annual Tournament

On Saturday, June 9th, the annual Nassau County Challenger Baseball Tournament returns to Garden City. The games will be played throughout Community Park on all of the baseball fields starting at 9 AM and running until 2:30 PM. Regardless of the weather - and let's hope it cooperates - you can count on it being a sunny day made especially bright by the smiles and laughter of the players and spectators enjoying the games. Food and refreshments will be available for all.

A little bit of background: The Challenger Division was established to provide an athletic experience for children who are physically or mentally challenged. The GCAA Baseball and Basketball programs both provide Challenger Divisions. The fundamental goal of the Challenger Division is to give everyone a chance to play and enjoy the benefits of team sports, regardless of limitations. The programs are open to any challenged child age 6 through 18 (21 if still in school).

Since late April, the GCAA Spring Baseball Challenger teams have been out on the fields on Saturday mornings playing ballgames and sharpening their skills. The annual Nassau County tournament gives our players a chance to "compete" (in the best sense of the word) with their peers from neighboring towns.

It promises to be a day full of old-time fun -- baseball, hot dogs, sunshine and laughter. Come on out and lend us your cheers!
