GC Grey Dominates RVC The 6th grade Grey Lacrosse Team continued their winning ways with an impressive victory this past weekend over rival RVC at Skelos Field. It was a total team effort from start to finish in the 8 to 5 victory. GC Middie's Muller, McDaid, Schmelzinger, Bais, Magdich, Dooley, And Attackmen Clay, Metzler, Guterding, Vitale, Kerantzas, Weiss, and Fitzsimmons controlled most of the play throughout consistently coming up with the face offs and making smart passes to maintain possession. GC's Big "D" consisting of Stone, Haeffner, Lemarr, Skramko, and Sundius continued to work well together keeping RVC's attack out of scoring range for most of the game. Joe stone anticipating RVC's passing game had several incredible steals which thwarted RVC's attack from setting up their offensive plan. Team grey scooped up 47 ground balls despite the wet surface and only allowed RVC to take 10 shots on goal. Matty Schmelzinger did the hustle and picked up 10 on his own. Matt Cortese had another great game in goal making 5 key saves to keep RVC from coming back in the second half when they were held to one goal. With the game securely in hand by the fourth quarter the boys had some fun switching from their usual positions. Matt Haeffner, Joe Stone, Kyle Skramko,Eric Sundius, Mark Lamarr, and Ryan Dooley moved to attack and had a great time passing around the cage. Gutty, JJ McDaid, Timmy Muller, Mouse Magdich, Petey Kerantzas, moved back to D to work on their long pole skills and were able to put a damper on RVC's attack late in the game when they put the full press on. Jack Metzler, Lucas Clay, Spencer Bais, Matty Schmelzinger, Matt Vitale, Dan Weiss, and Brendan Fitzsimmons worked the midfield providing the needed leg work on the transition between the offense and defense; maintaining control and preventing RVC from clawing back late in the game. Team grey heads into their final game on Sunday, June 10th at SUNY Farmingdale where they will meet Manhasset for their second mini Woodstick Matchup of the season. This promises to be an exciting end to the season as Manhasset will surely be out to avenge their club's april 25th loss to team grey. Go GC Lacrosse!!!!!!! Go Grey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
