You may not imagine a scenario where a large group of 13 and 14 year-old girls are all dressed up to go out dancing with their moms. But this is what happens each year at St. Anne's School during a long tradition of Mother Daughter Nights. The first Friday night of every June Kindergarten through eighth grade girls look forward to going out with their moms and friends. As always, the night began with Father John celebrating a beautiful mass rejoicing in the special bond that exists between mothers and daughters. The mass was dedicated to the eighth grade girls who will soon be leaving St. Anne's, and their moms who have put so much into their education here. After the mass these girls and their moms sit in the church and exchange letters, putting to paper the reasons they are special to each other. Downstairs in the auditorium, a spirited party gets underway with a buffet dinner served by some of the dads and lots of dancing for the mom's and daughters. At St. Anne's it is common to see a circle of girls dancing, which will include seventh and eighth grades right along with Kindergartners and first graders. The Chinese auction is always a big hit of the night, with over 30 baskets and prizes donated by school families and local merchants. A bicycle, an American Girl Doll and a Sleepover Themed Basket were some of the big prizes. All of the girls get a special memory photo taken of them with their moms as a special memory of the night. Maureen Jones and Jennifer McManaman did a terrific job in putting together a perfect night that will be remembered for a long while.
