3rd Grade Boys LAX:
Having a Ball!

Notre Dame's Dan Confort makes a great catch!
Look! Out on the field: They scoop! They pass! They catch! They ram! They run! They check! They shoot . . . They score! Yes, it's the 3rd grade boys playing lacrosse, and having the time of their lives in an action-packed, fun-filled, and friendly-competitive season.

The 3rd Grade Boys Rams Intramural season is nearing its end, with over 80 boys participating on 4 "college teams," with almost every game so far having been decided by one goal or ending in a tie. There have been big crowds (a.k.a. "parents & grandparents") at Stewart Field every Sunday rooting for the Univ. of Virginia, Duke, Johns-Hopkins, and Notre Dame. The boys surely get a kick out of sporting the big-name college jerseys!

On Mother's Day Sunday, the boys showed that nothing, not even lacrosse, is more important than their wonderful Moms! During half-time of each game, the boys gave their moms a long-stemmed red rose and then handed over their lacrosse sticks. Hmmmm . . . ? It was the Moms Shooting Contest! "Radar Rob" McLoughlin clocked each mom for speed as she shot at the goal, much to the enjoyment - and amusement - of their sons and husbands! The fastest shooter was Alison Dillmeier of Duke at 46 mph, with Mary Lynn Simmons of Johns-Hopkins in 2nd place at 43 mph, and Lucille Prevete of Virginia in 3rd at 40 mph.

Notre Dame's Stephen Moran, with the ball, tries to get by Virginia Defender Marc Prevete.
In addition to the 6 intramural games in GC, these Rams teams played a few scrimmages against neighboring towns in recent weeks and did very well. They look forward to more "travel" competition as they play in the Battle of the Beach tournament in Long Beach on Sat., June 2nd and a tournament in New Canaan, CT on Sunday, June 3rd. They end the season with the Jay Gallagher Tournament in GC on Sat., June 16th.

Many thanks to our talented and dedicated Head Coaches: Rob McLoughlin of "U. of Virginia," who is also the League Coordinator; John McDaid of "Johns-Hopkins;" Steve Schick of "Notre Dame;" and Dave Dillmeier of "Duke." (And of course their equally talented and dedicated coaching staffs!)

Luke McDaid (#12, Johns-Hopkins) and Duke's Kevin Johnson wait at the center line before face-off.
Thank you for providing our boys with a great lacrosse learning experience and preparing them for travel league play next year.

Virginia's Andrew Wood runs with the ball as Notre Dame's Brian Haeffner heads him off.
John Simmons of Hopkins speeds downfield with the ball as Virginia's Drew Haggerty moves in.
At half-time on Mother's Day, the players' moms were "treated" to a Fastest Shot Contest. The boys look on in amazement . . . or, rather, amusement!
Kevin McDougal of Johns-Hopkins gets a clean break-away and rips downfield!
Hopkins' Sonny Carraciolo snags the ball with a reach of his stick.
Mark Luglio aids Hopkins teammate Timmy Schmelzinger as Timmy takes the ball downfield.
The Duke middies fight for possession with Timmy Schmelzinger of Johns-Hopkins.
"Radar Rob" McLoughlin clocks a mom's speed in the Fastest Shot Contest; Rob coordinated the event, preceeded by the moms receiving red roses from their sons.
James deSousa and Pierce Senken of Notre Dame battle Matt Chmil and A.J. Crean of Virginia for a ground ball.
Notre Dame's Brian Leggett's shot on goal is blocked by Virginia's Andrew Wood, as Bobby McLoughlin is set in goal and Drew Haggerty is ready to help out.
Goalie Bobby McLoughlin of Virginia throws back a save as Notre Dame's Jack Casler gets back in position.
Max Webster of Notre Dame cradles the ball as Virginia's John Wotczak moves in.
