Baseball Playoffs The Varsity Baseball Squad entered the Nassau County Class A playoffs last week as the #5 seed. They dropped an opening round game to #4 Wantagh. They posted wins over #13 Manhasset and #8 Seaford before losing a semi-final elimination game to Seaford. The Trojans finished the season at 17-7. GC 3 Wantagh 7 GC scored 2 runs in the top of the 1 st inning on RBIs by Kevin Volpe and Matt Emmert. Rob Finneran hit a solo home run in the 3rd inning. GC took a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the 6 th inning. Wantagh scored 5 runs to put the Trojans into the loser's bracquéi. Kevin Derle, Rob Finneran and Kevin Volpe has 2 hits each. gc 23Manhasset 2 The Trojans jumped out to a 9-0 lead after 2 innings. They had 20 hits to advance to the quarter-finals. The offense was led by Kevin Derle (2-4, 2 RBI's); Kevin Volpe (3-5, 3 RBI's); Matt Emmert (3-3, 4 RBI's) and Rob Finneran (1-3, 3 RBI's) GC 8 Seaford 3 Junior Pat Sylvester earned his 1 st varsity win with a complete game performance. Seaford scored a run in the top of the 1 st. GC tied it in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Matt Emmert. RBI base hits by Justin Kirschner, Kevin Derle and Rob Finneran helped The Trojans score 5 times for a 6-1 lead in the 2nd inning. Matt Emmert had 3 hits, Bob Fargnoli, Kevin Derle and Ryan Sweeney added 2 hits each. GC 4 Seaford 5 An RBI double by Pat Sylvester and a suicide squeeze by Justin Kirschner gave GC a 2-0 after 2 innings. Rob finneran retired the first 12 batters he faced taking a no-hitter into the 5 th inning. Seaford scored 2 runs to the score. The Vikings scored 2 runs in the 8 th inning. In the bottom of the 8 th, Finneran doubled and Kevin Volpe hit a 2 run home run to tie the score. Seaford scored a run in the 9 th inning to eliminate the Trojans.
