Troop 55 Sharpens Outdoor Skills at Camporee

Scouts practice building a fire with flint at April Camporee.
Scouts from Troop 55 attended the Theodore Roosevelt Council April Camporee at Camp Nooteming in the Hudson Valley. Scouts participated in advancing their outdoor skills of lashing, fire building, cooking over the open fire and map and compass orientation as they enjoyed an outdoor scavenger hunt. Scouts who have recently joined the troop learned first hand the skills necessary to survive in the outdoors assisted by older scouts in the Troop. The weekend also featured an invitation to join the Order of the Arrow for six scouts from Troop 55. The Order of the Arrow is an honor society of Boy Scouts, who have camped extensively over a two year period and are elected by their fellow scouts in the Troop. The Order of the Arrow is known for providing service in the scouting council and their community.
