The following is a list of the Recreation Summer Camp Schedule. Registration for these programs will be announced in the upcoming weeks. Please watch this column for further information on how to register for each camp. All camps are open to any resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City as long as they fall within the age guidelines.

preschool camp announced

The Garden City Recreation Department will be conducting a Pre-School Camp for girls and boys 3.5 to 5 years old who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. Children who attend this camp MUST be 3.5 years by the start of the session. This camp will be held at the St. Paul's Cluett Hall from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The cost of each session will be $75. Arts and crafts, music, nature, and stories will fill the one and one half hour class. The sessions are as follows:

Session I:July 9 thru July 13

Session II:July 16 thru July 20

Session III:July 23 thru July 27

Session IVJuly 30 thru August 3

Session V: August 6 thru August 10

summer lacrosse camp

The Recreation Department will offer a Lacrosse Camp for Boys and Girls entering 3 rd-6th grades in September, 2007. The program will teach participants the stick handling, catching, scooping and the fundamentals of the game. The children will also play games in a structured setting. No previous lacrosse experience is necessary.

The program is conducted by Wally Cook, certified lacrosse referee and coach, on the fields at Stewart Field. The camp will run from 9:30 a.m. to noon each day.

summer soccer camp

The Garden City Recreation Department will be conducting a Youth Soccer Camp for boys and girls who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City during the weeks of July 30 through August 2, and August 6 through 9, 2007 at Community Park (behind the pool). This instructional program will be offered for boys and girls Ages 6 through 12. Youngsters MUST be six by the start of the camp AND entering first grade in September 2007 in order to register for this camp.

The Two Hour Session will run from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., at a cost of $60 and will focus on individual skill development. The five hour session will run from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at a cost of $125. The five hour session will include an hour lunch break and swim session supervised by the Soccer Camp Staff, to be followed by full field games.

summer basketball camp

The Garden City recreation department will be conducting a Youth Basketball Camp for boys and girls who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City from June 25 to June 28. This camp will be held in the St. Paul's Field House under the direction of Pat Kennedy.

An instructional camp will be offered for boys and girls entering GRADES 3 & 4 in September, 2007 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. and a session for boys and girls entering GRADES 5 & 6 in September, 2007 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. There will be a limit of 50 children for each session.

The purpose of this program is to provide instruction in self improvement, basketball fundamentals, team play, group cooperation, and, most important of all, FUN! The cost of this camp will be $60 which includes a T-shirt.

summer baseball camp

The Recreation Depatment will again conduct a Summer Baseball Camp for boys and girls that are Residents of the Village of Garden City.

The camp will be held Monday through Thursday during the weeks of July 16 to 19 and July 23 to 26, 2007 at Community Park. This instructional program is offered for boys and girls, aged 6 to 12, in two hour sessions for either one week or two weeks. Children who register for this program MUST be six by the start of the session. Sessions are held from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. for children 6 to 8 years old, and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for children 9 to 12 years old. The camp will focus on individual skill development, and the importance of playing together as a team.

The Recreation Department will conduct a Summer Field Hockey Camp for girls children entering grades 4 through 7 that are residents of the Village of Garden City.

The camp will be held Monday through Thursday during the week of July 16 to 19 on the soccer field at Community Park. The session will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon. roller hockey summer camp

The Garden City Recreation Department is offering a summer Roller Hockey Camp this year at the Community Park's Roller Hockey Rinks. The camp will be a combination of skill driven activities and pick up games. This camp is open to any village resident between the ages of 5-10. All participants are required to supply their own equipment. The schedule will be as follows:

The Recreation Department is offering a summer Roller Hockey Program for residents of the village ages 11-14 and adults ages 30 and over. This program consists of pickup games and will be held at the Community Park Hockey Rinks. The six week schedule will be as follows:

The cost to join this program will be $25. All equipment must be provided by the participant. Space is limited so please register early. To register, please visit the Recreation Office in Village Hall.

spring/summer adult tennis lessons

The Garden City Recreation Department will conduct evening tennis lesson for adults who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. The lessons will be held at the Garden City Community Park tennis facility and will run one evening a week. There will be a maximum of four players on a court. The dates, times, and fees will be as follows:

To register for any of these sessions, please come to the Recreation Office in Village Hall. Payment must accompany your registration form and separate checks will be needed for each session you register for. Our tennis pro will then set up lessons on our courts with people with like abilities. You will be emailed or called with your lesson assignment.

If you are a resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City, age 18 or older, who would like to play softball in one of the Recreation Department's softball leagues, call the Recreation Office at 465-4075 to put your name on our "player list."

We sometimes have coaches who are looking for extra players to round out their rosters. Call and leave your name, age, address, and phone number and we will keep your information on file for the team who is looking for players.

Our instructors are up to date on the latest moves to keep you interested while exercising. Pat and Joy have years of experience and can show the individual how to modify the exercises to their levels.

To attend a single class, you only need to show on a given day and pay $4.00. If you would like to attend regularly, then we have 20 class passes that cost $60, a savings of $1.00 per class.
