Billy Trimmer taking control of the ball over Hicksville
On May 19, the U-10 GC Flames faced the Hicksville Shooters, a team tied for first place in their division. GC was ready to take on the tough challenge from the first whistle. Numerous Shooter breakaways were thwarted as Bobby Clarke, Alex Franco and Greg Pahlavi came flying out of nowhere to break Hicksville's momentum. Brett Alvarez and Tim Collins hung tough against a strong opposing midfield to move the ball up for GC. The GC defense stepped up to face Hicksville's skilled offense, with Billy Trimmer making incredible tackles throughout the game and Brian Goulard continually clearing the ball out of GC's end. Busy goalie Chris Costigan had more saves at the net than anyone could count, holding the talented Shooters down to only two goals the entire game. Chris Koester's first half shot on goal deflected off a Hicksville player to net one for GC, and he took advantage of a second half breakaway to shoot the ball into the far corner for his second goal. The Flames gave new meaning to the word "teamwork", as they truly pulled together and played with amazing determination for the most exciting game of the season to date. Way to go Flames!
