Girls 5th Grade Lacrosse Beats Floral Park

The girls started quickly as Shannon Callahan won the opening draw and spotted Annie Blanco who dented the net on a nice bounce shot. Shannon would score quickly there after unassisted. The midfield play of Hannah Eilbeck, Maddy McGuire, Brianne Griffith, Shannon and Annie controlled play with numerous completed passes amongst themselves and with the attack of Kayla Walczyk, Casey Cullen, and Molly Adams. Casey Cullen took advantage by scoring the next two goals unassisted on very strong dodges past defenders. Garden city led 4-0 early in the 1st quarter. Garden City's goalie and defense would be tested as the good sportsmanship rule was enforced. The defense would be anchored by Kristen Noonan who made 6 great saves in first half. Floral Park would not score in the first half as defenders Katie O'Neil, Stacey Madelmayer, Paige Lopez, and Paige Cicchetti did a great job double and triple teaming their opponents. Garden City led 4-0 at halftime.

Second half goalie Lauren Garizio started out hot and saved the first two shots in the second half. This gave GC possession and the attack of Zoe Karikas, Kristen Fitzsimons, Kristen Noonan, and Brianne Griffith helped complete three straight passes which led to Brianne feeding Shannon for her second goal. Annie Blanco would score next on a great pass from Paige Lopez. Floral park scored late in the third quarter which would end with GC leading 6-1. Hannah Eilbeck opened up the fourth quarter with a strong move past three defenders to score and increase the lead to 7-1. Floral park would score three times late in the fourth but just when things got closer 7-4, Brianne scored on a nice bounce shot on a very unselfish pass by Stacey Madelmayer. GC won 8-4. The second half saw outstanding play by Kristen Fitzsimons, Paige Lopez, Katie O'Neil, Kristen Noonan and Molly Adams who were all over the field excelling at different positions.
