We have several writers who live and work in Garden City and one of them will be appearing at a book signing in the main room of the Garden City Library - Lower Level - on Thursday, May 31 st at 2 p.m. The author is none other than Richard Benack, a past Mayor of the Village. The title of his book is "Saints Aren't Angels," the story of the life of St. John Bosco. Mr. Benack will tell you how he came to write this story and how long it took him to do it (40 years). In addition, there will be readings from the book by Sal Cantania, Marjorie Maher, and George Papoulas (well known members of the Garden City Readers Theater). No registration is needed to attend and each person will be given a ticket for a drawing. The happy winner will receive a free autographed copy of "Saints Aren't Angels." This is a must for all book lovers, as well as those interested in drama. See you there!

I have told you this is a bridge town. Marie Kelly wants you to get your reservation in for the Wine & Cheese Card Party on Friday, June 1 st from 7 to 10 p.m. in the St. Joseph's School Auditorium for the Rosary Altar Society. Send your check in the amount of $15 per person to Marie at 27 Clinton Rd. Garden City.

Elizabeth and Charles Dunleavy are back from a couple of weeks in Hawaii where they celebrated their 15 th wedding anniversary. They look tan and rested. Congrats to them and we're happy to have you back home again.

Ruth Brown took a fall recently and is on the mend, but do send a get well card as that always makes one feel so much better. While you are at it, send one also to Barbara Degroot as she is also under the weather. With this weather, it is a wonder that more folks are not suffering. Get well soon wishes to both ladies.

Happy birthday wishes go to Jerry Regan, who celebrates on the 24 th of May, to Michele Dyrlabnd, who celebrates on the 27 th, to Kay Thompson, who does the same on the 28 th, and to Marilyn Camp, who does ditto on the 29 th. May all the happy people have a great day and a year filled with good health and much happiness with many more to come. You are all so close together you should have a joint party. What fun that would be.

Memorial Day will soon be upon us so remember to get your poppy. American Legion members will be on Seventh Street to make it easy for you to have one and the Women's Auxiliary will give you another opportunity along Seventh St. on the day of the parade. Do turn out for this wonderful tribute to all our veterans from all wars and especially think of our troops in Iraq and all other areas at this time. Let us hope that the time will soon be with us when we no longer have to plant poppies in any more Flanders Fields. I will look for you along the parade route and come also for the exercises in front of the Middle School.
