Cathedral Kids Care Group Begins Annual Drive Kids Care is an outreach program of the Cathedral of the Incarnation. Its goal is to provide foster care children with the basic school supplies that will give them hope and an equal chance to succeed in life. Kids Care was conceived in 2005 by Jaclyn D'Aversa and Jennifer LeSeuer, both young members of the Cathedral's congregation. Kids Care has helped countless children who are part of the Nassau County Department of Social Services. A backpack and school supplies adds up to a tidy sum of money very quickly, money which these families cannot take away from their food budgets. In the past, the group has raised funds and sought donations of school supplies and backpacks in order to help first and second grade children whose families receive assistance from the Department of Social Services get off to a good start in the school year. It is so important for the children to have the basic supplies in order for their educations to be successful. Last year over 50 backpacks were donated or purchased and filled with supplies. This year Kids Care hopes to double that amount and help even more children in need. Won't you think about helping this very worthy endeavor? The first fund raiser for Kids Care is a bake sale being held on Sunday, June 3 after the 8:00 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. Masses at the Cathedral. Come and buy some homemade goodies or come and drop off new school supplies like pencils, erasers, rulers, glue, gluesticks, crayons, markers and backpacks or be a real supporter and do both. If you cannot make it to the bake sale, donations of new supplies may be dropped to the Cathedral Office at 50 Cathedral Avenue from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Anyone interested in more information about Kids Care and its mission may contact Jackie D'Aversa at 516-581-7278 or e-mail her at jackie9087@aol.com
