Girls Varsity Track

Lauren Williams (2nd), Laura Martens (3rd) and Michelle Rotondo (4th) in the 400 hurdles.
The girls traveled to North Shore High School for the 4th Annual Invitational Meet last Saturday and had another strong showing. The team is currently ranked #3 in Newsday's Top Ten on LI - behind powerhouses Uniondale and Bay Shore. With the Division meet having been run this past Tuesday and the County Championships coming up next Tuesday and Wednesday at Mitchel Field, the girls are primed to come across the finish line with another successful season. The strength of the team comes from senior leaders Emily Hepworth, Amanda Joyce and Amanda Olivio. The trio of seniors are complemented by a very deep group of girls - starting with juniors Maddie Adams, Lauren Williams and Katy Daly, right down to 7th graders Molly Josephs and Jenna D'Angelo. From top to bottom the more than 30 girls compete each week and contribute to the success of the team because of their dedication and hard work. It seems like every meet a handful of the girls come up with personal best performances - a great indicator of the continued development of the team under the tutelage of coaches Mr. Cuzzo and Ms. Fregosi. In a school like Garden City HS, with its rich sports talent, it's hard to say any one team works harder than another, but you can definitely put this team near the top. Good Luck at the Division and County Championships, as well as the State Qualifier meet.
