6th Grade Lax Victorious Over East Meadow

Dan Weis, Pete Keranzas,Ryan Dooley, and JJ Mcdaid go for the gb's.
It was a beautiful Mother's Day this past weekend and St. Paul's provided the perfect setting for an exciting lacrosse game between GC Grey and East Meadow A.

With inspiration from injured John Walcyzk, Matt Vitale started the scoring onslaught in the 8 to 2 victory with two quick goals for GC's attack off perfect feeds from Timmy Muller, JJ Mcdaid, and Matt Schmelzinger in midfield. Justin Guterding scored two goals for GC after scooping up 3 ground balls and working the ball around the cage with crisp passes to Lucas Clay who in turn made precision passes setting up three goals for GC in the winning effort. Dan Weiss' worked hard around the cage and scooped up a loose ball which he passed selflessly which would set up one of Justin Guterding's goals. Petey Kerantzas(1gb) always at the ready, Brendan Fitzsimmons and Jack Metzler provided the needed hustle and support in the offensive end to maintain possession and keep the East Meadow defenders on their toes.

In the midfield JJ Mcdaid dominated on faceoffs, and tallied three goals while assisting on two and picking up 5 groundballs in a tremendous effort instrumental to the win. Middie Timmy Muller's tough play forced several turn overs and picked up 2 groundballs which was crucial in maintaining ball possession for gc. Timmy also worked in the offensive end picking up one goal and an assist. Mouse Magdich and Spencer Bais hustled up 3 groundballs in the midfield, as did Ryan Dooley on the transition then making key outlet passes to the attack for the-up. Matty Schmelzinger was tremendous in the midfield using explosive speed to pick up 5 groundballs. Matty's stamina and usual iron man effort made the transition from defense to offense look effortless.

Matt Vitale takes it to the cage.
The GC defense was near perfect in preventing much of an East Meadow offensive throughout holding them to just two goals, one of which was scored while East Meadow had a three man advantage. Matt Haeffner, adept at the long pole, scooped up a groundball and kept the east meadow attack at bay making a couple of key steals with quick outlet passes to his waiting middies. Kyle Skramko(2gbs) and Joey Stone provided their usual tough as nails defense holding the East Meadow attack out of range and preventing many scoring opportunities. Eric Sundius and Mark Lamarr were relentless on the East Meadow attack pushing them out of the box and keeping them off balance.

Gutty goes for the goal.
When East Meadow did make a surgeon net, Matt Cortese was ready, like a wall, between the pipes making 11 saves and clearing the ball with acumen to Joey Stone, Kyle Skramko, Eric Sundius, Matt Haeffner, and Mark Lamarr for the clear.

It was especially nice to see both teams join together in the midfield at half time to wish their respective mom's a happy Mothers Day! Great team effort! Way to go grey! Go gc!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
