Xtreme Shoot Down The Starz

Last Saturday the Garden City U10 Xtreme traveled to East Meadow to play the Starz. The match was played on the beautiful "Field of Dreams." Great playing conditions and a bright sunny sky brought out the potent Xtreme offense. Superior passing and finishing, along with relentless pressure sent the Xtreme home with a 7-1 win.

Since the two teams met in the Waldbaum's Cup back in March, the Xtreme knew they were in for a very physical match. The Starz lack some speed, but make it up with a pounding style of play. The match featured prolonged battles for possession, with the Xtreme winning the majority of the battles. Six minutes into the match, Isabel McKeown set up Sam Miesemer to give their team the lead. Isabel saw Sam making a run to the far post and played it through perfectly and Sam one timed the ball past the keeper. Cara Adams, playing left forward, skillfully scored the next two goals within two minutes with crosses from Lauren Miesemer and Sam M. Throughout the match the Starz back line could not contend with the speed of Joanna Sokolovic. Nineteen minutes into the half, Joanna ran by everybody and made it 4-0. As it's been all season, the backs Alison Holfester, Katie Roscoe and Jenna Codignotto were up to the task. When challenged, the backs dispossessed the East Meadow player and sent the Xtreme back on the attack. Center back Deanna Diperro made sure no quality shots were taken. Deanna tracked down the Starz forwards, won the ball and played it to her target. Sam Derby was the first half keeper. Sam was challenged seldomly, but performed brilliantly when called upon.

At the start of the second half, the Starz tightened up on defense. There was a 10 minute span where the Xtreme pressured the Starz but couldn't get the ball past the keeper. The draught ended when lauren was played in on goal and smartly pushed the ball past the keeper. A few minutes later Joanna got around the stopper defending her and gave the Xtreme their sixth goal. Sam D. playing up front, knocked down a goal kick and drove the ball beautifully into the upper corner to end the match.

The Xtreme are looking forward to playing at home against the Franklin Square Strikers this Saturday.
