GC Rams 5th Grade Lax

Midfielder Connor McCullough beating his man
The Dutton/Hughes/McCullough 5th grade boys' lacrosse team, traveled to the coast line to take on Long Beach on a breezy Mother's Day. LB came out strong tallying two quick goals for a 2-0 lead. Attackman, Joe Burdi gave GC the spark it needed netting the team's first goal and leading the charge back with his aggressive hustle. Midfielder Carney Mahon continued to be the set up man drawing multiple slides from the crease.

The defense never quit, lead by Ryan Guarino, Ryan Scott, Timmy Halaby, Jack Anseser and Mike Collins. Brain Hughes found his rhythm clearing the ball and continued to give the offense opportunities to control the ball. Both teams traded goals in the 3rd period, as GC had a tough time finishing off their plays, hitting two pipes in the quarter. In the 4th quarter, Long Beach took a 7-5 lead with 2 minutes remaining in the game. GC gained a man-up situation and cut the deficit to 7-6 on a goal from Connor McCullough off the stick of James Dutton. The duo connected twice on Man-up for the day. Off the ensuing face off, GC created a broken situation goal to tie the score 7-7 to end the game. The result was a total team effort and showed this team can play from opening to closing whistle. The team travels to Wantagh next week for another tough match up.
