Big golf fans - and especially little ones - are looking forward to the opening of Garden City's completely updated and rebuilt miniature golf course next month at the Community Park and Pool complex.
"This is going to be wholesome fun for the entire family, even the ones who are not so athletically inclined," said Mayor Peter Bee. "This new course will provide plenty of enjoyment and challenges for everybody from youngsters to seniors and is shaping up to be one of the Village's most popular recreation activities."
Workers are putting the finishing touches on the 18-hole complex this month at the site formerly occupied by a rather dated 1950s era miniature golf course. The waterfalls and ponds are already finished. The trash receptacles, benches and scoring posts are installed. Irrigation, topsoil and plants and trees are next.
"We are not certain of an exact opening date just yet," said Kevin Ocker, head of the recreation department," because there are often last minute glitches that can hold you up. But we are fairly confident that we will be able to open to the public in early June."
The fees for the $460,000-course have been set for residents and non-residents: $3 for resident seniors and children under 12; $5 for residents over 12; $4 for non-resident children under 12 and $6 for non-residents over 12.
Ocker added, "This course was designed by Harris Miniature Golf of New Jersey, the international leader in the miniature golf field. They are very well known for their innovative and exciting work that brings people back again and again."
