Sam Derby goes on the attack

On May 5 th and 6 th, the Garden City U10 girls, the Xtreme, had an exciting weekend on the soccer field with one big win and one loss. The Xtreme playing at home on Saturday at Nassau Haven, had a strong victory against Wantagh/Seaford Revolution and a loss on Sunday against Massapequa in the Waldbaums Cup Tournament.

The Xtreme met some very talented teams in the Waldbaums Cup Tournament, proudly making it to the third round. Sunday's loss to Massapequa Extreme was disappointing, but the Xtreme look forward to vindicating themselves when they compete against the Extreme during the last match of the season.

Against Wantagh/Seaford, the Xtreme took charge early in the game, dominating the match with constant possession. Deanna DiPierro put the Xtreme on the score board with a strong penalty kick into the top left corner. From the goal onwards, the Xtreme girls controlled the remainder of the first half. The forwards kept the pressure up field with two more goals from Katie Roscoe and Sam Miesemer. Once again the Revolution received a tripping penalty in the box resulting in Lauren Miesemer driving a bullet kick into the lower left corner of the goal. The first half ended with goal keeper Sam Derby and defensive players Katie, Deanna, Cara Adams & Jeanna Codignotto denying Revolution every offensive drive up the field, the first half ended 4-0.

The second half was more of the same with the Revolution unsuccessfully trying to break the Xtreme's solid defense. With a combination of passes, the team drove up the field with Colette Seel passing to Alison Holfester then to Isabel McKeown, who perfectly placed the shot into the corner of the goal. The defensive team and second half goal tender Lauren, shut down any Revolution offensive runs. With the Xtreme awesome speed, they continued with their breakaways from both sides of the field. Late in the second half Jenna played Joanna Sokolovic into the offensive third and Joanna finished the play for the final goal. Next week the Xtreme play the East Meadow Starz.
