A Word From The Publisher On Wednesday, May 16 the Committee to Save St. Paul's will host a meeting to present its development partner, Paul Rabinovitch of Canus Corporation, to the public of Garden City. We hope the people of Garden City take this opportunity to meet Mr. Rabinovitch as well as hear the details of the proposal. This should be an opportunity for the public to understand the fiscal implications of this proposal. We hope that the two other applicants also are able to present the details of their projects to the public in the future as well. While most people would agree that the St. Paul's Main Building is an attractive structure that could be an asset to the community, everyone who owns a home knows that in addtion to esthetics, a proposed building project has to make financial sense as well. It's all very well to be sentimental about a historic building, but if the project is unaffordable, then that's that. On the other hand, if a mixed use project can be designed that will save the building, provide attractive public space and minimize the impact on the taxpayers, that would be a project most people could get behind. So Wednesday night's meeting could be very illuminating to those who still have open minds about St. Paul's.
