State Recognizes Excellence At GC Schools

For the third year in a row, Garden City Middle School and High School have been designated as high-performing / gap-closing schools by the NYS Dept. of Education. Garden City as a district has also received a similar honor from the State.

To achieve these distinctions, the District must have an outstanding graduation rate and schools must meet rigorous standards for the core content subjects and demonstrate continuous progress in English language arts, science, and mathematics for two consecutive years.

State scrutiny of these indicators is vigorous under the federal No Child Left Behind program. Garden City Public Schools, in fact, go well beyond the guidelines required by the government.

Since the tracking practices established under No Child Left Behind started, Garden City students have demonstrated high levels of achievement due to the challenging curriculum presented in classes, the many opportunities to receive instruction tailored to individual needs, and the use of research-based teaching practices.

The award from New York State will be officially presented at a seminar featuring high- performing schools on May 14.
