Plant Sale Benefits Cathedral Choirs

Fourteen years ago, the "Before Mother's Day" plant sale began as a way of raising monies to subsidize the Cathedral Choirs. During this time they have been invited to sing at Cathedrals in England, Scotland, Washington and others. The three choirs consist of a Girls Choir, Schola (Women's Choir), and the Choir of Men and Boys. Besides singing every Sunday at services, the Choirs combine to give a concert each spring at The Cathedral of the Incarnation in Garden City, and on the first Sunday of each month, there is an Evensong at 4 p.m.

Saturday, May 12th, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m . under the tents at 50 Cathedral Ave., just south of the railroad tracks - rain or shine - you will find "sensational perennials and awesome annuals," all ready to plant in your garden.

The committee has been busy handpicking over 60 varieties of perennials, all in gallon-size containers, well rooted. There are plants that need a sunny spot and plants that do well in part shade or full shade. You are sure to find the right spot.

We have chosen new, exciting mixtures of impatiens, as well as the usual ones. There are many varieties of annuals in flats of 48 (or half flats of 24). This year we have included different varieties of 4-1/2" pots so you can make your own container gardens or plant them directly into your garden. They include wave petunias, a lovely variety of geraniums, heliotrope, scavoela, dracina and ivies.

For Mother's Day, there are exquisite mixed garden containers, some in hanging baskets and some in pots for the patio. The hanging baskets include fuschia, colorful New Guinea impatiens and scavoela, as well as other varieties.

As stated in the Seeds of Change catalog, "Whether you're a budding novice or a lifelong devotee, the gardening journey never fails to surprise and delight along the way. Growing unfamiliar plants offers limitless possibilities, which renew and refresh us no matter how experienced we may be.
