Historical Society Receives Donation
Recently, the Historical Society was the recipient of a donation of several pieces of antique furniture, offered to the Society by Dr. Emilie Sair, a longtime Garden City resident. Members of the Society's Flea Market Committee met Dr. Sair at her family home on Chestnut Street, and accepted the three pieces, which were in remarkable condition. Dr. Sair said she "was pleased to donate the items" and know that they are being appreciated in their new home at the Historical Society Museum. She donated her mother's cedar hope chest, manufactured in the early 1930s. The chest was made at the Cheshire Reformatory in Cheshire, CT. The second piece is a lovely settee, made in the mid to late-1880s, which was handed down within the family from her paternal great-grandmother. Dr. Sair also donated a beautiful rocker, made in Madison, CT, which belonged to one of her oldest aunts on her mother's side of the family. While the furniture donated by Dr. Sair will remain in the archives collection of the Historical Society, the Flea Market Committee is still accepting donations of items to be sold at its upcoming event on June 2. Anyone wishing to donate items can call Jill Mayer at 747-8759. In addition, the Society still has space available for individuals, families and groups who wish to set up their own table at the Society's "old-fashioned neighborhood garage sale." Ten-foot-square spaces can be reserved for $75. For information, call Marjorie Egan at 741-8050. For information on consignment opportunities, please call Kris Harder, 747-1774. The Flea Market will also include a large raffle of gifts donated by local residents and merchants, food, and antique appraisals by Ann Madonia Antiques. Come join the fun...Saturday, June 2, at the Historical Society Museum.
