The Fireballs had two matches this past weekend and came up with solid performances in both. On Saturday in a regular season match, the girls had to battle back from an early goal by Valley Stream and did so, getting two second half scores from Meaghan Walsh and Liz McDougal. Then on Sunday they came back to play in the sweet sixteen of the State Cup against an unknown Riverdale team and handily beat them 5-0 to advance to the quarterfinals. Sunday's match featured a Fireball team that was clicking on all cylinders, right from the opening touch. With two first half goals by Christina Cesarini the girls jumped on top and maintained control. Then in the second half (the Fireballs half), GC added three more from Victoria Aldrich, Monique Roberge and the final tally by defender Kim Verderber on a fantastic 50 yard run through the Riverdale defense. A great weekend with two good wins. The girls play in Cold Spring Harbor for a match up against a division rival. Good Luck girls!
