Boys' JV Volleyball

The Garden City High School Boys' JV Volleyball team has gotten off to a torrid start to its 2007 campaign by going 6 - 0 with 3-game sweeps against each of its opponents - Carey, Valley Stream Central, Floral Park, Mepham, Great Neck South, and New Hyde Park who was previously undefeated in conference play.

Team co-captain Gerard Hugel and middle attacker Blaise Ancona have carried much of the offensive load with lots of power and blocking in the middle with co-captain Chris Bingold hitting from the outside. Prior to sustaining an abdominal injury, freshman setter Ryan Theobalt performed well in the first 4 matches as he settled into running a new offensive system. Also having played good all-round ball, freshman Ryan Gallant came up big orchestrating the offensive attack against Great Neck South and New Hyde Park as he filled in admirably for Ryan Theobalt. James Naples and Tom Buonincontri have contributed in the front line while Brian Gillespie and Matt Giacometti have provided good all-round support. Kenyon Male, Eric Giacometti and Chris Theobalt have sparked the defense in the backcourt.

Coach Phil Opinante stated, "We had extremely limited experience coming into the season, and the kids are learning a new offensive and defensive system. I was confident that their hard work and commitment would pay off, and it really has allowed our team to come together quickly."
