Students Applauded At Meeting By Stephanie Mariel Petrellese

The Garden City Board of Education honored 25 teachers who have received tenure at a reception before the April 16th Board meeting, and then congratulated several students for their achievements once the meeting began.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Robert Feirsen congratulated this year's valedictorian, Richard Gustavson, and salutatorian, Elaine Tanella.

Girls' lacrosse player Caroline Seery was applauded for receiving the News 12 Scholar-Athlete Award.

Carolyn Holecek was recognized for winning the Statesman Award at the New York State SkillsUSA Leadership Conference.

Dr. Feirsen announced that in Boys' varsity basketball, Rob Finneran was named All-County and All-Conference Player of the Year. Harry Kutner was named All-Conference Player of the Year.

The undefeated boys' fencing team was honored for being named county champions. Kevin Oliver placed second in the county in foil the last two seasons, and went 5-0 and 27-1 in the regular season.
