The Cancer Center for Kids at Winthrop-University Hospital has received a $50,000 donation from The Pat Lyons Foundation. The gift, generated by the Lt. Patrick Lyons Annual Golf Classic, was the fourth contribution made by the Foundation to help launch the Hospital's Generation of Survivors Clinic, aimed at helping childhood cancer survivors achieve the healthiest adult life possible by providing them with health education, evaluation and support. To-date, the Foundation has donated $220,000 to the Generation of Survivors Clinic.

Established in 2003 to honor the life and spirit of husband and father, Patrick John Lyons, a New York City firefighter who lost his life while helping others on September 11, 2001, The Pat Lyons Foundation's mission is to help improve the lives of children. In 2006, the Foundation established the Generation of Survivors Clinic at Winthrop's Cancer Center for Kids. This long-term program follows childhood cancer survivors through adulthood to monitor their successes and help them combat the risk of developing late effects from treatments that were used earlier in life.

"The Pat Lyons Foundation is proud to have played a significant role in launching the Generation of Survivors Clinic at Winthrop-University Hospital," said Irene Lyons-Loeffler, The Pat Lyons Foundation. "The Foundation is dedicated to bettering the lives of children and we know that this program will have a lasting impact on the lives of many cancer survivors."
