Church School Donates Food To The INN

The entire Sunday School classes with their decorated Spaghetti Dinner bags for the INN
The Sunday School program at the Garden City Community Church participated in an outreach program for the Lenten Season. Earlier in February, the students had a "Barn Raising" based on some lessons learned from Charlotte's Web. The movie had three themes - focusing on kindness, friendship and giving. A small barn was built and donations were collected for spaghetti dinners for the INN in Hempstead.

On Sunday, March 25 as part of the Lenten program, the students gathered together and colored white bags. Some students wrote inspirational messages, as Brooke Warhurst who wrote on her bag "I hope you love this dinner as much as Jesus Loves You". Many of the younger children drew Easter pictures, rainbows and hearts.

After the bags were decorated, the kids loaded up their bags with spaghetti sauce, pasta, vegetables, grated cheese and desserts. There were enough donations for the kids to put together 50 spaghetti dinner bags. The bags were delivered with an additional check for $300 for the INN, donated by the Auxiliary of the Garden City Community Church.

The students enjoyed participating in a program that gave meaning to the season and hope to make this an annual event. Much thanks goes to the volunteers who helped on this day, as well as all the people who donated food for the INN.
